LEFT BRAIN/ RIGHT BRAIN COOKERY: A Double-Take in the Kitchen features two well-known Kingston chefs and a marvellous offering of fully tested companion recipes, paired on facing pages. From appetizers to mains, baking, and sweets to insider tips on ingredients, this book is a rich
and inspiring resource.
Marilyn and Joanna's shared years of food-testing, cooking, sampling, and redesigning recipes, led first to their website, leftbrainrightbraincookery.com, and ultimately, to this book.
Left-brain-oriented Marilyn is structured and professional in her approach to cooking. Right-brain Joanna brings a fresh perspective every time she’s in the kitchen. Both aim to spur readers to cook outside the box – or the recipe, with one goal: great food!
Chef Marilyn has cooked and baked in venues including
a neighbourhood grill, an upscale bistro and bakery, an
Italian fine-dining nightclub, and a 90-room spa hotel.
She also coordinated a cooking school for a major grocery
chain. For six years she was Associate Food Editor at
Canada's famous Chatelaine magazine, and for 22
years she wrote and tested recipes for the LCBO’s
Food & Drink magazine.

Chef Joanna has operated a restaurant and bakery, designing its menus and making breads and pastries. She has taught adults and children at a cookery school and led hands-on, healthy meal preparation for children for schools. Since starting a small business called Chefs Without Borders, she has geared her catering toward fundraising for projects in Central and South America. Joanna also provides spectacular cocktail fare for many events at the family-owned independent bookstore, Novel Idea. Entertaining family and friends keeps her keenly engaged in experiments in the kitchen, both at home on her trusty Aga or at the cottage “in the rough.”
